I love it when worlds collide, and bookish coffee is a perfect example.

But first, what is bookish coffee?

I’m so glad you asked.

Simply put, bookish coffee is coffee with a book theme. The coffee could be a blend inspired by a book, a roast named after a favorite literary character, or a coffee that pairs with a particular genre.

Bookish coffee is a way to bring the magic of books to life inside the comfort of coffee, and I love it when some of my favorite things collide in real life.

It’s one of the things that makes coffee special. You can take stories and characters and turn them into something you can taste and savor. You can’t do that with just anything in life.

So, let’s dive into the world of bookish coffee and explore some of the best roasters bringing stories and coffee together.

Fable Grounds Coffee

This is one of the first bookish coffee roasters I discovered when I started KT Likes Coffee.

Fable Grounds Coffee was founded in 2019 by Katelyn. Based in Maryland, Fable Grounds Coffee truly embodies bookish coffee.

From flavored coffees inspired by lore like fairies, dragons, and elves to coffees created just for books (like Pride & Prejudice – Pemberley Roast), they have something for every book lover.

Some specific bookish coffee collections you should check out include:

All coffee from Fable Grounds is roasted in small batches. To read more about this fabulous bookish coffee roaster, check out my full review!

Novel Grounds

Novel Grounds is actually a romance-themed bookstore with a physical location! Located in Chesapeake, Virginia, the company supports a large percentage of indie authors and also sells books, merchandise, and coffee online.

Coffee offerings, titled “Fiction Sips,” are through a partnership with Temecula Coffee Roasters and feature a range of bookish coffee blends. Standouts include:

There are a variety of events at Novel Grounds’ location, too, including author signings and book club meetings. Be sure to check out Novel Grounds and upcoming shop events on the calendar!

Edgewater Bookstore

An online retailer, Edgewater Bookstore, offers a collection of literary reads aimed at engaging readers in deep reflection. There are even courses you can purchase for deeper reflection after reading!

Complementing its book collection, Edgewater also provides a range of custom coffee blends and teas aimed at enhancing the reading experience.

There are also tea options and monthly featured coffee and/or tea blends.

The owner of Edgewater Bookstore, Eddy Hood, also hosts a popular podcast, The Read Well Podcast, which also features a book club.

Writers & Rockers Coffee Company

Much like coffee, I find that music goes with reading too, be it background music while reading or playlists we listen to while writing (or blogging in my case!). There’s something about pairing the right sound with the right story that makes the whole experience feel more immersive.

Writers & Rockers Coffee Company takes all those things (music, books, and coffee) and blends them in a way that feels incredibly intentional. Their roasts are inspired by iconic musicians and authors, which makes each bag feel like a small creative tribute rather than just coffee. It’s the kind of brand that clearly understands the creative process and the rituals that come with it.

Bookish coffee offerings from Writers & Rockers include:

Bonus Brew: Chapters Tea & Company

Chapters Tea & Company used to sell coffee but discontinued their coffee line a while back to focus on tea. But I still wanted to feature them because their bookish-themed tea is special.

Their tea blends are inspired by stories, reading moments, and the comfort of getting lost in a good book. If you’re someone who reaches for tea during evening reading sessions (or prefers a caffeine option that’s a little gentler), Chapters is a lovely alternative.

It’s especially perfect for nighttime reading, book club evenings, or those moments when you want something warm that isn’t another cup of coffee.

While they may no longer roast coffee, Chapters Tea & Company still belongs in the conversation when it comes to bookish brews that enhance the reading experience. Sometimes the best reading companion isn’t coffee at all, it’s a cup of tea steeped in story.

Whether you’re starting your morning with a fresh chapter or winding down after a long day with a favorite book, bookish coffee adds an extra layer of comfort to the experience.

I hope these four unique bookish coffee roasters give you inspiration to write, read, and sip, because the best stories are even better when enjoyed with a warm mug nearby.
